Transportation Committee
PROJECTS:
• Survey of Transportation Priorities—We have developed a survey that we would like the two Chambers to either e-mail or mail to all the members. See attached document
• Transportation Luncheon and Fair—Some time in the fall, we want to have a joint Chamber meeting whose theme is transportation, have all sorts of exhibits from transportation and transit related businesses and services; also the lunch would kick off a “Take Your Transit to Work Day.”
• “Take Your Transit to Work Day” a.k.a “Give Your Car a Break Day”—Working with the TMA, we would promote transit options day, get the Governor to take the bus from Drumthwacket to the State House, have the mayors and the committee/council members in the region declare by resolution a “Take Your Transit to Work Day” – if not mass transit, then “Give Your Car a Break Day” and carpool or walk or bike or transit to work if at all possible.
Mission
To promote logical land use planning through regional cooperation to ensure that sound economic development occurs within Mercer County.
To promote mass transit options thoughout the Route 1 Corridor. Our committee will also address station improvements, dedicated lanes, and parking issues in an effort to improve the desirability of mass transit.
To provide channels so that information on transportation can be communicated to all interested chamber members.
To advocate for and market transportation initiatives and strategies that are in the best interests of the region's large and small employers and their employees. Our institutional resources for determining such initiatives and strategies will be the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association (GMTMA), the Regional Planning Partnership (RPP) and, of course, both Chambers whose members will be surveyed about transportation priorities. The Transportation Committee will collaborate with the Legislative Committees of both Chambers to work with state and local government officials on specific transportation issues.
